Needle Stick/Blood and Body Fluid Exposures
Downtown Campus
In the event of exposure to blood or body fluids you should:
- Immediately wash the affected area with soap and water, or for eye involvement, flush with clean water.
- Immediately notify Employee Health during weekday hours (7:30am-3:30pm) at (315) 464-4260. Report to the Emergency Department after 3:30pm.
- Report to the Emergency Department after hours and on weekends; identify yourself as an Upstate employee, student or affiliate. Follow up with Employee Health on the next business day.
- Complete Online Injury Report
- Schedule Nurse Visit for BBF Exposure through the ESH portal, https://eshportal.upstate.edu/.
- For your appointment, bring the source patient's MR#, so Infection Prevention can access lab results.

- Schedule CG Nurse Visit for BBF Exposure through the ESH portal, https://eshportal.upstate.edu/.
- For your appoitment, bring the source patient's MR#, so Infection Prevention can access lab results.
