Description of Research Project: Our lab is housed within the Vector-Borne Diseases Department, with a specific focus on tick-borne diseases. My research centers on the intracellular bacteria Rickettsia. I am working on developing an attenuated strain of this bacterium to study and understand the mechanisms of vector-pathogen interactions. This strain could also serve as a potential vaccine candidate.

Favorite thing about SUNY Upstate: As an international student, I have encountered many things here that exceeded my expectations. First and foremost, the people of Upstate are incredibly helpful; whenever I ask for assistance, no one ever says no. Small gestures, like providing snacks or lunch for every seminar, reflect their kind demeanor. My daily motivation and relaxation spot is my seating area in the department, where the serene view from my window is something I look forward to every day.

Favorite thing about Syracuse or Central New York: One of my favorite part about Syracuse is the landscape with its seasons. The snowy winters transform the colorful city into a beautiful black-and-white landscape, with each season bringing its own unique beauty. As a nature lover, I am captivated by the abundant greenery and cleanliness here, which makes me want to spend more time outdoors than indoors. Add to it, there are parks, waterfalls and lakes to spend some quality time here.

What I do for fun: I spend most of my time in the lab, where I am fascinated by the world of parasites. Outside of the lab, I enjoy watching web series, immersing myself in different stories and genres. Playing badminton and riding my bike keep me active and help me explore new places from time to time. Additionally, I love trying out new recipes and hanging out with friends making the most of my time here.
