Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program
The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) program at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital is the regional specialist in treating children with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Our team includes pediatric gastroenterologists specialized in the care of IBD, along with support services to provide comprehensive care.
What is IBD?
Inflammatory bowel disease is a term used for inflammatory conditions of the colon and small intestine. The main forms of IBD are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which are autoimmune diseases. Inflammatory bowel disease occurs when the body’s immune system attacks parts of the gastrointestinal system.
