Pediatric Psychology is a subspecialty within the field of clinical psychology that focuses on the promotion of health behaviors in children, adolescents, and families in a medical setting. The practice of pediatric psychology combines principals of behavioral health and psychology to provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health concerns in addition to coping with chronic illness and adjustment to life-altering medical conditions.

Due to the complexity of treatment adherence for various medical conditions it is important to identify barriers such as anxiety, depression, developmental delays and learning disabilities that could interfere with optimal functioning. Pediatric psychologists use evidence-based interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy to address and treat barriers that could interfere with treatment adherence and other positive health behaviors. The Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinic provides service for both inpatient consults at Golisano Children’s Hospital as well as an outpatient services.

Due to the specificity of this service please know that patients most appropriate have an identifiable medical condition, whether acute or chronic. If you feel your child and family meet this requirement and are interested in service with our outpatient clinic please call 315 464-1969.
