The mission of the Social Work profession is a set of core values:
- Service, upholding the dignity and worth of the person
- Appreciating the importance of human relationships
- Maintaining integrity and competence
- Curbing social injustice
Hospital Social Workers collaborate with patient care teams and integrate the mission and core values of social work utilizing principles and standards to guide ethical decision-making. Social Workers' primary goal is to help people in need and to address social problems.
SUNY Upstate Medical University Social Workers are required to have a Master of Social Work degree and a New York State License (LMSW). In addition to the LMSW some Social Work Staff members have achieved a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker -R (LCSW-R) status.
