Ways to Give

Volunteers have been a main source of strength in helping us extend the best possible care to patients and families being treated at Upstate Golisano. Volunteer assignments are available in both the pediatric inpatient and outpatient areas. Potential volunteers interested in working directly with patients must be willing to make a weekly commitment for an extended period of time.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years or older and out of high school. We do not have a rocking baby program or allow groups to volunteer with our patients. Our volunteers work with Child Life Specialists to provide age-appropriate activities and other duties including cleaning toys to prevent cross-contamination of germs.

Yes! I would like to be a volunteer at the children’s hospital.

Short on time? Consider volunteering at one of the many events held by the Upstate Foundation that support Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The Upstate Foundation raises over $2 million annually to support sick and injured children cared for at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. Donations come from lemonade stands, birthdays, individual gifts, community events, local retailers selling icons, tribute gifts, bequests and corporate sponsorships, as well the yearly Radiothon. Money raised goes to support patient comfort items, family needs, the school room, the family resource library, special equipment, clinical research, and programs that would not be available without private funding, such as the important Child Life program.

Special Events and Entertainment

Visits from friends are always welcome and visits from our friends at places like Sesame Street allow patients and families to get out of the medical environment and have experiences that kids enjoy. The children's hospital has ongoing programs, activities, and visits from special guests that make a hospital stay a positive and enjoyable experience for kids.

We rely on community support and resources to help us plan activities for patients and their families and we want to hear your ideas!

Events typically last 30 minutes to an hour and incoming group sizes are limited to 10 people. Groups including children under the age of 16 are discouraged from applying. Your group may NOT take photographs or video during the visit. Most importantly, you can expect anywhere from 2-50 patients/family members to attend an event. However, supplies should be available for the 71 patients in the hospital that day.

If you are interested in providing entertainment for the patients at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, please download our application for entertainment and read the guidelines carefully before submitting an application. Completion of an application does not guarantee acceptance or scheduling of a visit.
