Our Mission
The mission of SUNY Upstate Medical University Family Medicine Residency is to advance Upstate Medical University’s mission by educating Family Medicine physicians to provide equitable, compassionate, inclusive care to the meet the needs of diverse communities through an emphasis on:
- Physician-led teams
- Care Across the lifespan in multiple settings
- Whole-person health approach
- Life-long learning and academic inquiry
Residents receive a diversity of opportunities that train them to be excellent clinicians in urban, suburban and rural practice, and prepare them for leadership and faculty positions in family medicine. Additionally, they are committed to meeting the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of their patients. They model the highest standards of patient care, teaching and research.
The residency creates an environment supportive of life-long learning and professional development. It is a diversified learning environment with a "reflective practice" model, and fosters a culture that values patient care, education, and research equally.
The residency supports SUNY Upstate Medical University’s mission, vision and values. It will also support Syracuse VA Medical Center’s core values of ICARE (Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence).
