At Upstate Medical University, our primary concern is the health, safety and well-being of our students, staff and community. If you or someone you know has experienced discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment or violence, you have a right to file a complaint.

In addition to the option of filing a complaint with OIE, listed below are resources offered on campus as well as off campus and in our community that may be useful to those who have experienced or witnessed discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, or sexual violence.

Vera House

24-hour crisis & support line: 315-468-3260

Vera House provides 24-hour telephone support, as well as 24-hour support at Onondaga County hospitals and police stations for victims of sexual abuse, sexual assault or rape.  Vera House is a confidential recourse, and will not report information to college officials without your permission, except for in extreme circumstances, such as a health and/or safety emergency.

Emergency Care

Emergency care is available at the University Hospital Emergency Department. Identify yourself as an Upstate student and notify the Student Health Office the next business day. Your health insurance will be billed for Emergency Department charges.

Urgent Care

Urgent care services (when Student Health is closed) are available locally through WellNow Urgent Care Centers. Your health insurance will be billed for urgent care charges.



Note that medical office and insurance billing practices may reveal information to the insurance policyholder, including medication and/or examinations paid for or administered. The New York State Office of Victim Services may be able to assist in compensating victims/survivors for health care and counseling services, including emergency compensation. Crisis Prevention Services

Many of these services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Callers can connect free of charge to the phone hotlines and will be directed to local agencies in their area. Individuals can also connect with trained hotline staff online through a secure chat messaging system.
