The Program
We tailor the program of each Fellow to his or her specific interests and requirements while fulfilling the requirements of the subspecialty Board of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. The primary ambulatory experience is at the Joslin Diabetes Center, University Endocrinologists and Osteoporosis Center, with additional experience at the VA Medical Center Diabetes and Endocrine Clinics. Inpatient consultations are primarily performed at University Hospital and the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. There are on average four formal teaching conferences weekly.
The Joslin Diabetes Center
The Joslin Diabetes Center provides comprehensive services, and includes adult and pediatric endocrinologists, preventive cardiologist, nurse educators, dietitians, psychologists, podiatrists, exercise physiologist and large insulin pump, CGMS and telemedicine programs. The Joslin Center/University Endocrinologists evaluates individuals for all endocrine conditions. At the Center are 2 thyroid ultrasound machines for FNAs, a DEXA machine and equipment for measurement of ABIs. The Thyroid Center/Thyroid Cancer Program at Joslin collaborates closely with Nuclear Medicine, Pathology and Surgery, the Pituitary Center with Neurosurgery, Radiology and Pathology, and the Metabolic Bone Disease Center with Nuclear Medicine, Nutrition, Radiology and Pathology.
Research Facilities
Excellent clinical and laboratory research facilities are available. Each fellow is expected to engage in a research project, which may be predominantly laboratory or clinical, depending upon the interests of the fellow.
