Hazmat for the First Receiver Operations level class.

Patient Decontamination Hazmat for the First Receiver Training

Upstate Hospital is likely to receive patients from the scene of a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) or small event who may be contaminated with a hazardous substance. Those patients will need to be decontaminated before entering the hospital for treatment. There are several courses available, for various audiences below:

 

Hazmat Awareness Level

Brightspace Course Offering Code: 1856 

 

This course is intended for Patient Access, University Police Officers, Ambassadors and Public Safety staff members should upon hire and annually. The Tracker code for this training is HAZMATTR.

Hazmat First Receiver Class

Brightspace Course Offering Code: 2236

Per Policy M-04,Mandatory and Staff Education, all adult and pediatric emergency department RNs, and Inpatient HCTs are required to complete the one-time, 4-hour first receiver level training upon hire via Brightspace. The Tracker code for this training is HAZMATBB.

Hazmat Decontamination Training (Competency)

Per Policy M-04, Mandatory and Staff Education, all adult and pediatric emergency department RNs, and Inpatient HCTs are required to complete the 4-hour in-person first receiver level training within the first year of hire. The Tracker code for this training is HAZMATDECON. 

Hazmat Refresher

Per Policy M-04, Mandatory and Staff Education, all adult and pediatric emergency department RNs, and Inpatient HCTs are required to complete the 4-hour in-person first receiver level training once per year, following the initial year of hire, in order to maintain competency. The Tracker code for this training is HAZMATREFRESHER.

Hazmat Required Training Outline

Emergency Department RN Unit Leader Training

This annual Brightspace training is targeted for Emergency Department RNs who have been selected by ED nursing leadership to serve as a Unit Leader during a mass casualty incident (MCI) involving hazardous materials. This position specific training should be reviewed annually. The Tracker code for this training is UNITLEADERHICS. 

Decontamination of Special Needs Populations

Decontamination exercise provides guidance in the safe and effective management of patients with special needs related to mobility, hearing or speech, language, etc. The importance of staff training, signage, communication, and use of adaptive equipment are highlighted. Watch Video.
