Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship granted accreditation

The Upstate Emergency Ultrasound fellowship as granted accreditation by the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Accreditation Council (EUFAC) on August 10, 2021.

Kevin Gaskin, MD, fellowship director, states, "Over the past few years, there has been a poliferation of Ultrasound Fellowships (there were 121 as of 2018)... Who knows what these guys are doing? Thus, in this spirit, and to provide some degree of standardization and assurance of quality among fellowships, last year EUFACS was created to function as an accrediting body. In conjuction, the American Board of Emergency Mediciine (ABEM) created a focused practice designation (FDP) in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography.  Of course, an applicant cannot sit for the FDP without having graduated from a EUFAC-accredited fellowship.  Thus, this accreditation is hugely important to us as it affects the status of our current fellows, our ability to recruit future fellows, and indeed, the viability of our very fellowship itself."

Congratulations to the Ultrasound Fellowship program.
