Dr. Brian Kloss, DO, JD has just returned from a week-long trip to Trivandrum India where he lectured for the Masters in Emergency Medicine Residents on the topics of Toxicology and Acute Abdominal Emergencies.

Upstate Emergency Medicine has had an affiliation with the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital for over 10 years and has helped to establish EM as a specialty in India. Faculty from Upstate travel to India four times a year to present lectures on Emergency Medicine and to observe and appreciate the differences in the delivery of healthcare abroad. Indian physicians in the MEM program also have the opportunity to travel to Syracuse in their final year of training to attend lectures and observe care provided here in the Upstate Emergency Department.

This was Dr. Kloss’ sixth trip to India, with a seventh trip scheduled to Delhi in March in collaboration with George Washington University’s Department of Emergency Medicine.
