Antivirus Information for Madison Tower Residents

Official Upstate Medical University policy requires anti-virus and anti-malware software for all computers connecting to the Upstate network. All students must install and run anti-virus and anti-malware software on their personal computers in order to connect to the Upstate Network.

Academic Computing recommends Windows Defender (PC users) or Sophos (MAC or PC users) and Malwarebytes. Sophos and Malwarebytes both offer free and premium editions, either or is fine.

Windows Defender is an antivirus that is built into windows operating systems and automatically activated.

Once installed Sophos automatically updates itself by default. If you’d like to sign up for a free version please go here.

Students are permitted to use other anti-virus/anti-malware software, so long as the virus signatures are kept current and up-to-date.
