Concepts of Race, Racism, and Racial Issues in Women’s Health: A Historical and Contemporary Discussion

TARGET AUDIENCE: Physicians, Clinicians, RNs, PAs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Following this activity participant will understand (how to):

  1. Gain an appreciation of how Race, Racism, and Racial Issues were involved and/or incorporated in playing roles in three (of countless) examples of Women’s Health in American history.
  2. Discuss how Race, Racism, and Racial Issues are being examined in contemporary Women’s Health and Severe Maternal Morbidity (SMM) in Black/African-American women.
  3. Review some of the current methods OB/GYN educators and national policy/law makers have used to address/improve Race, Racism, Racial Issues in contemporary Women’s Health.
