Academic Support Services

Academic Support falls under Student Success Initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs at SUNY Upstate. Our office has a principal goal of facilitating student success in the classroom by offering a variety of services and programs to students of all colleges.

Services provided include workshops, academic counseling, peer tutoring, and academic strategies which encompass:

  • Learning Styles
  • Learning Strategies
  • Strategic Study for USMLE
  • Test Taking and Test Anxiety
  • Note Taking
  • Study Skills

Academic Counseling

Learning styles and skills vary from student to student and Academic Support offers personalized meetings with our staff to discuss a range of topics. Each student receives one-on-one attention and an individualized plan for success.

We utilize an array of resources which may include additional support materials, tutoring, workshops, and other trainings to tailor a program to individual student success.

Workshops & Courses

Periodic workshops are available for a variety of students on a number of general topics such as time management, learning strategies, and study skills. In preparation for your board examinations, we also have panel discussions for the USMLE Step 1.

In addition, the MedSET (Medical Science Education Transition) Course is offered for incoming medical students.

How do I schedule a meeting with someone in Academic Support?

For students in the College of Medicine, please select one of the following options:

  1. Request a meeting using bookings
    Please read meeting descriptions carefully and choose appropriately.
  2. When on Campus, visit the COM Educational & Career Success Offices: 
    Location: Weiskotten Hall, Rooms 1217 and 1213
    Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm or by appointment 
  3. Reach out to a staff member directly:
