Upstate Medical University Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship (UMUNPR) Program

The Upstate Medical University Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship (UMUNPR) is a residency program with a robust 12-month curriculum of didactic and clinical experiential learning. The UMUNPR program will provide primary care transition to practice support for newly graduated and new to practice Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.

The UMUNPR is based out of Upstate Medical University College of Nursing. 4 Nurse Practitioner Residents will go through the program annually. Each resident will be placed at one of our clinical partner sites; East Hill Medical Center in Auburn NY, Liberty Resources in Syracuse NY, Onondaga Nation in Nedrow NY, or Family Medicine in Syracuse NY. The residents will receive clinical rotations in various specialties and access to specialized interdisciplinary training sessions and workshops.

This program establishes a solid process that allows the NP a year to ramp up their caseload and introduces them to the interdisciplinary setting because they will receive their training right alongside the family practice medical residents. This will give those NPs that same transition into practice and a solid foundation for going forward. Program Highlights

The UMUNPR provides a robust experience for new Nurse Practitioners. This paid residency allows residents to continue building their skills, education, and confidence. Residents will ramp up to a full patient caseload over the course of the year under the guidance of their mentor.

  • Duration: 12 months full-time (paid)
  • Clinical Locations: East Hill Medical Center in Auburn NY, Liberty Resources in Syracuse NY, Onondaga Nation in Nedrow NY or Family Medicine in Syracuse NY (1 NP at each location)
