Research Analysis and Statistics

The Research Analysis and Statistics luncheon and presentation with Dr. Christopher Morley, Chair of Public Health & Preventive Medicine is an invaluable opportunity for your summer research, and for throughout your future medical training to learn more about a wide variety of topics including statistical tools and software, designing an experiment, epidemiological analysis, biostatistics, analyzing data, global health, and more.

The statistics lecture will be VERY BASIC, and is intended to do the following:

  • Orient students to a common statistical package available on most Upstate public computers - SPSS
  • A quick overview of variables types (Continuous vs. Categorical) and data organization
  • Demonstrate generating output on four very useful and basic types of analyses, using SPSS
    • Pearson Correlations
    • T-Tests
    • Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
    • Chi-Square
