SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Medicine (Upstate) has an agreement with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) that allows admitted ACPHS students seeking the Bachelor of Science degree to be guaranteed acceptance into Upstate’s doctor of Medicine (MD) Program if they satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
Eligibility
- An excellent high school GPA with a 90% average minimum
- Have extra-curricular activities that clearly document some experience in a healthcare setting and a commitment to service work.
- SAT test scores of 1360 or better (combined Critical Reading & Math) or ACT test score of 31 Composite or better. The score will not be rounded to meet this minimum.
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
- Accepted UAS students will be required to meet with their ACPHS undergraduate academic advisor to craft a course schedule that meets the high academic science/general and major requirements expected of the program participants.
- Unofficial transcripts will be sent to Upstate at the end of each semester.
- Complete graduation requirements for their specified degree program, and in addition complete the following Medical School prerequisite courses: Biology I and II, General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I, General Physics I and II (all science courses must include a laboratory component), Biochemistry and Statistics. Students must receive no grade lower than a “B” in these medical school prerequisites. All of the above courses must be successfully completed at ACPHS. Pass/Fail courses are not acceptable. In the event that a student decides to withdraw from a course, prior permission must be granted by the Admissions Committee at Upstate – this can be requested by email to the Upstate representative.
- UAS students are expected to carry a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours each semester.
- UAS students must maintain a high level of academic achievement (3.50 grade point cumulative average and a 3.50 grade point semester average in the sciences eachsemester) and make reasonable progress toward other goals (e.g., research and experiential).
- Complete and document 40 hours of volunteer service during the student’s undergraduate career. It is strongly recommended that these hours be completed in direct contact with patients and physicians in a healthcare setting while at ACPHS.
The MCAT requirement for admission into Upstate is waived for individuals that are accepted into the program.
Application Process
- Students applying to ACPHS must indicate their interest in being considered for the Upstate Accelerated Scholars (UAS) program and have submitted a complete application by November 15th(including their UAS statement of interest, letters of recommendation, transcripts and test scores).
- Students must be accepted to ACPHS and then recommended by ACPHS to be considered. Please note acceptance to ACPHS does not guarantee acceptance into the UAS program.
- Application package due December 1st from ACPHS will include;
* Original application to ACPHS (including transcripts, test scores and letters of recommendation)
* Statement of interest in medicine and the UAS program
Please note that ACPHS has a rolling admission process, if students plan to apply for the UAS, it is strongly recommended to apply to ACPHS by November 15th. Students are required to complete the application process and commit to ACPHS by May 1st.
One of the goals of this program is to encourage diversity and to provide a pathway to medical school for students from a variety of different academic backgrounds. As a result, students applying to the UAS are encouraged to consider non-traditional majors.

Purchase College
SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Medicine has an agreement with Purchase College that allows admitted Purchase students seeking any degree (BA, BS, BM, or BFA) to be guaranteed acceptance into Upstate’s doctor of Medicine (MD) Program if they satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
Eligibility
Pre-college
- An excellent high School GPA with a 90% average minimum
- Extra-curricular activities that document some experience in a healthcare setting and commitment to service work.
- Combined Math and Reading SAT scores of 1200 or better or ACT score of 25 Composite or better.
Purchase
- Completion of graduation requirements for the specific degree program
- Completion of Medical School prerequisite courses: Biology 1 and 2, General Chemistry 1 and 2, Organic Chemistry 1, General Physics 1 and 2 including labs for all listed courses, Biochemistry and Statistics, with no grade lower than a B
- Carry a full course load of at least 12 credits each semester
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher
- Completion and documentation of 40 hours of volunteer service while an undergraduate

- The UAS Nomination Committee will evaluate admitted students for eligibility to the program on a rolling basis. Students must meet the minimum pre-college criteria to be considered. The Committee will then make recommendations to SUNY Upstate. Students will be informed if they have been recommended for consideration into the UAS.
- SUNY Upstate Medical will screen candidates recommended by Purchase College on a rolling basis and determine which students will be invited to interview. SUNY Upstate will notify students invited to interview and coordinate accordingly.
- SUNY Upstate will inform students of their decisions and provide a conditional acceptance letter to the students selected. A cohort of up to ten students may be admitted each academic year.
- Accepted students will be required to meet with their Purchase undergraduate academic advisor to craft a course schedule that meets the high academic science/general and major requirements expected of program participants. Unofficial T transcripts will be sent to SUNY Upstate at the end of each semester.
- Acceptance into the UAS is binding. Students who apply to other medical schools once accepted into SUNY Upstate will be immediately withdrawn from the UAS.
Please note that Purchase College has a rolling admission process, but if students plan to apply for the UAS, it is strongly recommended to apply by November 15. Students are required to complete the application process and commit to the Purchase by May 1.
This program is only open to incoming freshmen. Students who have matriculated at the College and transfer students are not eligible for consideration.
One of the goals of this program is to encourage diversity and to provide a pathway to medical school for students from a variety of different academic backgrounds. As a result, students applying to the UAS are encouraged to consider majors outside of biomedical sciences (although students majoring in science will be considered).

SUNY Polytechnic Institute
SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Medicine (Upstate) has an Accelerated Scholars Program agreement with SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) that allows admitted SUNY Poly students seeking a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree to be guaranteed acceptance into Upstate's Doctor of Medicine (MD) program if they satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
Pre-College Eligibility Requirements
- An excellent high school record with a minimum average of 90% or a 3.5 GPA.
- Extra-curricular activities that clearly document experience in a healthcare setting and a commitment to community service or volunteer work.
- An SAT test score of 1200 or better (combined Critical Reading & Mathematics) or ACT test score of 25 or better (Composite).
SUNY Polytechnic Institute Eligibility Requirements
Students accepted to the Accelerated Scholars Program at SUNY Poly must comply with the following in order to maintain their eligibility in the program:
- Completion of all SUNY Poly graduation requirements for their specific BS or BA degree program.
- Completion of medical school prerequisite courses with grades of “B” or better:Biology I and II, General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I, General Physics I and II, Biochemistry, (all science courses must include an in-person laboratory component), Psychology, Sociology, and Statistics.
- Carry a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours each semester.
- Maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 GPA in the sciences each semester.
- Completion of 40 hours of volunteer service during their undergraduate studies.
The MCAT requirement for admission into Upstate's MD program is waived for individuals who are accepted into the program.
Application Process
- Students applying for first-year/freshmen admission at SUNY Poly should indicate interest in the Upstate Accelerated Scholars (UAS) Program on the Common Application or on the SUNY Supplemental form.
- Students must be accepted to a BS or BA program at SUNY Poly to be considered for the UAS. Please note that acceptance into SUNY Poly does not guarantee acceptance to the UAS.
- The SUNY Poly UAS Nomination Committee will evaluate students admitted to SUNY Poly for eligibility for the UAS on a rolling basis. Students must meet the minimum pre-college eligibility requirements as detailed above to be considered for the UAS. The Nomination Committee will then make recommendations for program consideration to Upstate.
- Upstate will screen candidates recommended by SUNY Poly for the UAS on a rolling basis and determine which students will be invited to interview. Upstate will notify students if they have been selected for an interview and coordinate accordingly.
- Upstate will inform students of their admissions decisions for the UAS and provide a conditional acceptance letter to the students selected. A cohort of up to five (5) students may be admitted each academic year.
- Accepted students will be required to meet with their SUNY Poly undergraduate academic advisor and their SUNY Poly pre-med advisor for the UAS to craft a course schedule that meets the high academic science/general and major requirements for program participants. Unofficial transcripts will be sent to Upstate at the end of each semester.
- Acceptance into the UAS is binding. Students who apply to other medical schools after being accepted into Upstate will be immediately withdrawn from the UAS.
Please note that although SUNY Poly has a rolling admissions process, applicants to Upstate Accelerated Scholars must apply by November 1st and complete their application to by November 15th to SUNY Poly to be considered.
This program is only open to incoming first-year students. Currently matriculated students and transfer students at SUNY Poly are not eligible for consideration.
One of the primary goals of this program is to encourage diversity and to provide a pathway to medical school from a variety of academic backgrounds. Students applying to anyacademic program at SUNY Poly leading to a BS or BA degree are eligible to also apply for the UAS, although the program chosen should contain enough flexibility in the curriculum to incorporate the required medical school prerequisites within four years.

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry
SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Medicine (Upstate) has an Accelerated Scholars Program agreement with the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry (ESF) that allows admitted ESF students seeking a bachelor's degree in any major to be guaranteed acceptance into Upstate’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program if they satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
Pre-college Eligibility Requirements
- An excellent high School GPA with a 90% average minimum
- Extra-curricular activities that document some experience in a healthcare setting and commitment to service work.
- Combined Math and Reading SAT scores of 1200 or better or ACT score of 25 Composite or better.
ESF Eligibility Requirements
- Completion of graduation requirements for the specific degree program
- Completion of Medical School prerequisite courses: General Biology 1 and 2, General Chemistry 1 and 2, Organic Chemistry 1, General Physics 1 and 2 including labs for all listed courses, Biochemistry and Statistics, with no grade lower than a B
- Carry a full course load of at least 12 credits each semester
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher
- Completion and documentation of 40 hours of volunteer service while an undergraduate.

ESF Application Process
- The first step to be considered for the UAS program is to submit your application to ESF. Once we receive your application, we will send you an email with instructions on setting up your ESF Applicant Portal. Next, you will login to your Portal, open the ESF Supplemental Questions, select Pre-Health Interest and check Upstate Accelerated Scholars. Then, we will send you an email with next steps to be considered for the ESF Upstate Accelerated Scholars program, including how to submit your required UAS Statement of Interest.
- To be considered for the UAS program the application to ESF and all supporting credentials must be submitted no later than November 15. Applicants who submit their application materials or statement of interest after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Students must be accepted to ESF to be considered for the UAS program. Please note acceptance into ESF does not guarantee acceptance to the UAS program by SUNY Upstate Medical University.
- The ESF Nomination Committee will evaluate admitted students for eligibility to the program on a rolling basis. Students must meet the minimum pre-college criteria to be considered. The Committee will then make recommendations to SUNY Upstate. Students will be informed if they have been recommended for consideration into the UAS.
- SUNY Upstate Medical University will screen candidates recommended by ESF on a rolling basis and determine which students will be invited to interview. SUNY Upstate will notify students invited to interview and coordinate accordingly. A cohort of up to ten students may selected for interviews; Upstate Medical University has committed to admit up to 5 students each academic year.
- SUNY Upstate will inform students of their decisions and provide a conditional acceptance letter to the students selected.
- Students accepted to the UAS program will be required to work closely with their ESF undergraduate academic advisor to craft a course schedule that meets the high academic science/general and major requirements expected of program participants. Unofficial Transcripts will be sent to SUNY Upstate at the end of each semester.

Pre-College Eligibility Requirements
- An excellent high school academic record with a 90% average or 3.50 unweighted GPA.
- Extra-curricular activities that document some experience in a healthcare setting and a genuine commitment to service work.
- Combined Math and Reading SAT scores of 1360 or better or ACT score of 29 Composite or better.*

- Completion and documentation of 40 hours of volunteer service while an undergraduate.
The MCAT requirement for admission to Upstate Medical University College of Medicine is waived for individuals who are accepted into the program.
Degree Options
There are two tracks available within this UAS.
3+4 BA/MD Program
- Complete coursework for the BA in Biology at Syracuse University, including the liberal arts core, in 3 years.
- Matriculate at Upstate Medical University in the MD program after three years at Syracuse University (upon successful completion of the Syracuse University degree and all requirements for the UAS).
- Complete fourth year of college at Upstate Medical University. Following successful completion of the first-year medical curriculum, the BA degree would be conferred by Syracuse University.
4+4 Program
- Complete coursework for any undergraduate degree program at Syracuse University.
- Matriculate at Upstate Medical University in the MD program after four years at Syracuse University (upon successful completion of the Syracuse University degree and all requirements for the UAS).
Application Process
- Students who intend to apply to Syracuse University and who wish to be considered for this UAS must complete the following:
- The Common Application, including selection of an academic program (see below for more information on program selection) and an indication of a career interest in medicine.
- Students must be admissible to Syracuse University to be considered as candidates for acceptance to the UAS.
- Please note that Syracuse University has Early Decision and Regular Decision admissions plans.
- Students intending to apply to the UAS are strongly recommended to apply for admission to Syracuse University by December 1.
- Acceptance to Syracuse University does not guarantee acceptance to the UAS.
- The Syracuse University Admissions Committee will evaluate the eligibility of applicants on a rolling basis. To be considered:
- Students must first meet the Pre-College Eligibility Requirements described above.
- Students must be admissible to Syracuse University.

Applicants to Syracuse University who indicate an interest in the Accelerated Scholars Program in the Common Application and are recommended to SUNY Upstate for consideration for an interview will be required to submit SUNY Upstate's supplemental application. There is no supplemental application required by Syracuse University to be initially considered for the Accelerated Scholars Program.
- The Syracuse University Admission Committee will evaluate each applicant to the UAS and make its recommendations to SUNY Upstate Medical University. Students will be informed if they have been recommended as candidates or not.
- SUNY Upstate Medical University will screen recommended candidates on a rolling basis and determine which candidates will be invited to interview. They will coordinate the interview process with those candidates.
- Following the interview, SUNY Upstate Medical University will inform each candidate of their decision, and they will provide a conditional acceptance letter to those candidates who have been accepted. A cohort of up to five (5) Syracuse University students may be admitted into the Syracuse University UAS each academic year.
- Students accepted into the UAS will be required to meet with their academic advisor and their Premedical and Pre-Health Professions advisor during orientation in the fall. Together, they will craft a course schedule that meets the eligibility requirements listed above.
- Unofficial Transcripts will be sent to SUNY Upstate Medical University at the end of each semester. Students who fail to satisfy the Syracuse University eligibility requirements listed above will be withdrawn from the program.
- Acceptance to this UAS is binding. Students who apply to other medical schools once accepted into SUNY Upstate Medical University will be immediately withdrawn from the program.
The Common Application requires the selection of an academic program. This UAS does not require admission to any particular academic program, although the program chosen should contain enough flexibility in the curriculum to incorporate the required science courses within four years; please see the Degree Options described above.
One of the goals of this program is to encourage curricular exploration and to provide a pathway to medical school for students from a variety of different academic backgrounds.
This UAS is only open to incoming freshmen. Students who matriculated at Syracuse University prior to learning of this program and students who transferred to Syracuse University from another institution are not eligible for consideration.

SUNY Upstate Medical University, College of Medicine, and Binghamton University are proud to announce their partnership of the Upstate Accelerated Scholars Program (UAS).
This program allows recommended current Binghamton University undergraduate freshmen to be guaranteed acceptance into Upstate’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program if they satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
Eligibility
- An excellent high school GPA (minimum 90% average or a 3.50) AND a first semester GPA of 3.50 at Binghamton. The score will not be rounded to meet these minimums.
- Extra-curricular activities that clearly document experience in a healthcare setting and a commitment to community service or volunteer work. Students will be expected to track and report these activities and hours as an update to their Upstate representative but are not required to provide farther documentation.
- An SAT test score of 1360 or better (combined Critical Reading & Math) or ACT test score of 29 or better (Composite).
Applicants who meet the above requirements for consideration must:
- Complete and submit the application by April 1st of their first year at Binghamton with the understanding that they will need to submit their spring semester transcript as soon as it is available. (Please note that applicants will be required to participate in an internal process at Binghamton University which begins well before this date. See Binghamton University: Special Programs for Pre-Health Students)
- Interview with the Admissions Committee at Upstate in Syracuse NY in mid-May or June of the same academic year. Note: Decisions will not be made until Upstate has received spring grades.
Accepted Students
- The MCAT requirement for admission into Upstate is waived for individuals that are accepted into the program.
- Acceptance into the UAS is binding. Students who apply to other medical schools once accepted into SUNY Upstate will be withdrawn immediately from the UAS.
- Accepted students will have the opportunity to participate in summer programming on Upstate’s downtown Syracuse campus.
Continuance in the UAS
- Complete graduation requirements for their specific undergraduate Bachelor’s degree program.
- Completion of Medical School prerequisite courses with grades of “B” or higher: Biology 113, 114, 115; General Chemistry 104, 105, 106 (or 107-108); Organic Chemistry 231, 332, 335; Physics 121(or 131), 122 (or 132); Biochemistry BIOL 304 (or 403); Psychology 111; Sociology, and Statistics MATH 147 or 148 or PSYC 243.
- Carry a minimum of twelve (12) credits each semester.
- UAS students must maintain a high level of academic achievement (3.5 grade point cumulative average and a 3.50 grade point semester average in the sciences each semester) and make reasonable progress towards other goals (e.g. research and experiential). The GPA will not be rounded to meet these minimums.
- Complete and document 40 hours of volunteer service during the period of enrollment as an undergraduate student at Binghamton University.
Colgate University
SUNY Upstate Medical University, College of Medicine and Colgate University are proud to announcetheir partnership of the Upstate Accelerated Scholars Program (UAS).
This program allows recommended current Colgate undergraduate freshmen to be guaranteed acceptance into Upstate’s doctor of Medicine (MD) Program if they satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
Eligibility
- An excellent high school GPA (minimum 90% average) AND a first semester GPA of 3.4 at Colgate.The score will not be rounded to meet these minimums.
- Extra-curricular activities that clearly document experience in a healthcare setting and a commitment to community service or volunteer work. Students will be expected to track and report these activities and hours as an update to their Upstate representative but are not required to provide further documentations.

Applicants who meet the above requirements for consideration must:
- Complete and submit the application by April 1st of their first year at Colgate with the understanding that they will need to submit their spring semester transcript as soon as it is available.
- Interview with the Admissions Committee at Upstate in Syracuse NY in May/June of the same academic year. Note: Decisions will not be made until we have received spring grades.
Colgate
- Completion of graduation requirements for their specific undergraduate Bachelor’s degree program
- Completion of Medical School prerequisite courses: Biology 182 and another animal or cell biology course, Chemistry 263 and Chemistry 264, Physics 111 and 112 or Physics 232 and 233, Chemistry 1, General Physics 1 and 2 including labs for all listed courses, Biochemistry and Statistics, with no grade lower than a B-
- Carry a course load of at least three (3.0) course credits each semester.
- Students must maintain a high level of academic achievement (3.40 grade point cumulative average and 3.25 grade point semester average in the sciences each semester) and make reasonable progress toward other goals (ie. Research and experiential). The GPA will not be rounded to meet these minimums.
- Completion and documentation of 40 hours of volunteer service while an undergraduate
Accepted Students
- The MCAT requirement for admission into Upstate is waived for individuals that are accepted into the program.
- Acceptance into the UAS is binding. Students who apply to other medical schools once accepted into SUNY Upstate will be immediately withdrawn from the UAS.
- Accepted students will have the opportunity to participate in summer opportunities on Upstate’s downtown Syracuse campus.
One of the goals of this program is to encourage diversity and to provide a pathway to medical school for students from a variety of different academic backgrounds.

Hamilton College
SUNY Upstate Medical University, College of Medicine and Hamilton College are piloting their partnership of the Upstate Accelerated Scholars Program.
This program allows recommended current Hamilton undergraduate freshmen to be guaranteed acceptance into Upstate’s doctor of Medicine (MD) Program if they satisfy the following eligibility requirements.
Eligibility
- EITHER
- a first year GPA of 3.25 at Hamilton AND a minimum SAT score of 1350 OR 30 ACT
- OR a first GPA of 3.0 at Hamilton AND a minimum SAT score of 1450 or 31 ACT
- extra-curricular activities that clearly document experience in a healthcare setting and a commitment to community service or volunteer work. Students will be expected to track and report these activities and hours as an update to their Upstate representative but are not required to provide further documentations.

- Students must earn a GPA of 3.3 or above by the end of junior year and maintain a minimum cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 3.3 through their senior year and make reasonable progress toward other goals (e.g., research and experiential).
- Completion and documentation of 40 hours of volunteer service while an undergraduate

Eligibility Requirements
- An excellent high school GPA (minimum 90% average or a 3.50) AND a first semester GPA of 3.50 at Binghamton. The score will not be rounded to meet these minimums.
- Extra-curricular activities that clearly document experience in a healthcare setting and a commitment to community service or volunteer work. Students will be expected to track and report these activities and hours as an update to their Upstate representative but are not required to provide farther documentation.

Rochester Institute of Technology Eligibility Requirements
