Ultrasound, BS/BPS: Prerequisites
SUNY Upstate is an upper-division transfer college specializing in healthcare careers. Students applying to our bachelor’s programs take the prerequisite courses (minimum 56 semester hours) at another college and then complete their junior and senior years of the bachelor’s degree at Upstate for their program of study. BPS students enter with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from another college.
Pre-admissions Requirements
Before applying, applicants are encouraged to review the prerequisite courses for their intended program of study. Pre-admissions requirements for the Ultrasound, BS, and BPS programs include:
Ultrasound, BS
- Prerequisite courses
- The minimum grade for transfer is a "C"
Ultrasound, BPS
- Associate's or bachelor's degree
- ARRT certification or certification-eligibility in radiography (X-ray)
- A minimum of 56 semester hours of prerequisite courses is required for the BPS Ultrasound program
Prerequisite Courses
Applicants may apply without having all the prerequisites completed, but all prerequisites must be completed by the time the program begins.

Prerequisites - Bachelor of Science in Ultrasound
Bachelor of Science (BS) applicants enter with a liberal arts background and no previous education in Medical Imaging. An associate's degree is not required, but is welcome.
Requires a minimum of 56 semester hours including:

Prerequisites - Bachelor of Professional Studies in Ultrasound
Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) applicants are ARRT certified or ARRT certification eligible in radiography and will have a bachelor's or associate's degree upon enrollment.
