Medical Imaging Science/Radiography: BS

Medical Imaging Science/Radiography technologists use highly sophisticated medical equipment and computer applications that help doctors and other providers diagnose and treat diseases and injuries.

A technologist has a high level of patient contact where the use of interpersonal skills is critical. Radiographers work in a variety of healthcare settings. This may include hospitals, clinics, physician's offices, imaging centers, and industry. Avenues for career development include leadership roles as supervisors, administrators, educators, and researchers.

What Does a Radiographer Do?

Professional medical radiographers perform a variety of medical imaging techniques. Throughout the imaging process, a radiographer will:

  • Adapt procedures to patient conditions and evaluate image quality
  • Communicate with patients and demonstrate care skills
  • Effectively position patients for optimal imaging
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and professional conduct

I decided on the X-ray program because I wanted an opportunity to help people. Radiographers have a unique position… they can travel all throughout the hospital… I really take pride in that brief interaction with the patient because you are helping them on their healing journey.. You’re able to touch many lives in a day.
