Expand all

Step 1: Complete the SUNY Upstate Application

MedPrep is a fall entry program. Applications open in October for the following year. The deadline for applications is May 1st.

Application - College of Health Professions

Applicants must submit the SUNY application and $65 application fee (paid to SUNY) within 7 days of submitting the College of Health Professions application.

Step 2: Submit Official Transcripts

Applicants are required to submit official transcripts from every college attended or credit received from. If your college transcripts are not in English, or not in the same grading system as the United States, you will need to get a translation and a course-by-course educational credential evaluation completed by an approved agency.

Step 3: Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation from those familiar with your potential for medical school.

We recommend that at least one letter be from a science faculty member. The others should be from someone who knows you in an academic or professional capacity. Applicants will submit their reference information when filling out their application for admission. Upon submission of the application, the references will receive instructions on how to submit them.

Step 4: Personal Statement

Your personal statement should address the reasons for your interest in a career in medicine and how the Med Prep program will assist you in your pre-medical journey.

Step 5: Admissions Interview

Applications are reviewed after the May 1st deadline. After all completed applications are holistically reviewed, top applicants will be invited to interview.

Step 6: After Your Interview

Admission decisions are communicated via e-mail. Your acceptance email will have the details of your acceptance including the deadline to respond to the offer.

Incoming students must undergo a background check after admission and before enrollment. Until the background check process is complete, admissions are considered conditional.

For most accepted students the medical school admission process will begin immediately after admissions decisions have been communicated.
