Biography
Dr. Paul Johnson began his professional career in Chicago as a clinical laboratory scientist after completing a medical technology fellowship in the Department of Pathology at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He earned a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Louisville Medical School, where he had studied molecular chaperones and transcription factor interactions in human neutrophils.
His clinical research focus at Upstate Medical University began with a study on the diagnostic utility of concussion injury biomarkers in human subjects with a goal of improving early diagnosis. Current research efforts are focused on applied statistics in laboratory medicine; most especially on the dynamics of human biological variation of laboratory test results with direct applications to clinical-decision making and validation of instrument testing platforms.
Dr. Johnson is board-certified in the field of clinical laboratory medicine by both the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. He currently teaches laboratory medicine courses with specialty focus areas of clinical biochemistry and statistics.
