The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is an academic and financial support program. This program provides a college education for capable students with limited financial resources and inadequate academic preparation. To be granted EOP status, you must be academically and economically disadvantaged.

Eligibility

To be eligible for EOP status, transfer students must have been an EOP, HEOP, or SEEK student in their previous college. Before being admitted, students transferring from colleges or universities without these programs or from outside New York can be screened for economic and academic eligibility.

Academic Guidelines for EOP

Looking only at a student's grades, class rank, and test scores doesn't always show their true academic potential for college. When applying for EOP, students submit extra information. This may include letters of recommendation and personal statements. These documents highlight their extracurricular activities, job experiences, and any personal or family responsibilities that may have impacted their academic performance.

The College uses this extra information to assess the student's ability to do college work. It's especially helpful when traditional evaluation methods don't accurately measure the student's potential. To be accepted, applicants need to finish prerequisites and show potential to complete their chosen program.

Economic Guidelines for EOP

Established income guidelines determine economic eligibility for EOP. Refer to the SUNY Application Guidebook to confirm eligibility. Students may need to provide copies of tax returns or tax transcripts to the Financial Aid Office.
