RESEARCH ABSTRACT
Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems serve to enhance the bioavailability and reduce the side effects of various drugs. Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have achieved the most success in fundamental research and clinical translations. Research efforts have focused on improving the performance of currently available nano-drugs and developing new drug formulations – both are challenging tasks. The goal of our research is to 1) understand how carrier LNPs interact with cargo drug molecules and how LNPs interact with the biological systems; and 2) develop new and better LNPs that can deliver therapeutic drugs, proteins, and genes in a safe, specific, and efficient manner. We are developing LNP-based novel therapeutics for the prevention and/or treatment of infectious diseases, cancer, neurological disorders, metabolic conditions, and many others.
