Brain Tumor & Neuro Oncology Program

The Neuro-Oncology Program provides a supportive and advanced environment for patients with cancer that affects the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

Patients are treated by a multidisciplinary, collaborative group dedicated to treating primary and secondary brain tumors and the neurological problems associated with cancer. The neuro-oncology team uses a high-tech/high-touch approach to treating patients, with the goal of improving survival and quality of life for patients with brain tumors.

The neuro-oncology program at Upstate Cancer Center is the only program in Central New York led by a fellowship-trained neuro-oncologist. Our team also includes expert specialists in the fields of neurosurgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, neuropathology, and neuroradiology. We are the region’s largest team dedicated to treating brain tumors and neurological cancer. Our focus is to provide our patients the best care using the latest advances generated by scientific and clinical discoveries.

A hallmark of our program is to look at the genetics of the tumor whenever possible and develop a tailored treatment plan best suitable for each patient.

The program provides the same treatments and technologies found at any national cancer center, yet close to home in Central New York. The program includes the most advanced surgical and radiation therapy approaches and conventional adjuvant chemotherapy and supportive care in the outpatient and inpatient settings. We also offer evaluation for novel and experimental treatment.
