Şerife Tekin
Dr. Tekin is an Associate Professor at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Dr. Tekin holds a BSc in Economics and a BA in Philosophy from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey and has held postdoctoral fellowships and faculty appointments at various universities in Canada and the US. In 2022, she was awarded a faculty fellowship at the Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh, where she remains an associate fellow. She is on the executive board of the Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry and a faculty partner at the Collaborating Centre for Values-Based Practice in Health and Social Care at the University of Oxford, as well as an honorary research fellow at the Center for Olfactory Research and Applications at the Institute of Philosophy at the School of Advanced Study, at the University of London, UK.
Dr. Tekin teaches Clinical Bioethics and is the course director for Health Systems Science 1. She also leads psychiatric ethics seminars for psychiatry residents and interns at Upstate. Her work in philosophy of psychiatry takes place at the cusp of philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, and bioethics, and she has written on various epistemic and ethical issues surrounding mental disorders, personal identity and the self in psychiatric contexts, the medical applications of Artificial Intelligence, and the value of first-person memoirs in medical epistemology.
