Advanced Practice at SUNY Upstate encompasses the following credentialed provider roles: Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), Midwives, CRNA’s, and CNS’s

Advanced Practice entails a level of practice that utilizes extended and expanded skills, along with heightened experience and knowledge, in assessment, planning, implementation, diagnosis, and evaluation of necessary care.

Advanced Practice Professionals at this level typically receive postgraduate education and may function in specialist or generalist capacities. However, the cornerstone of Advanced Practice lies in the application of a high degree of knowledge, skill, and experience within the patient relationship, aiming to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem-solving, and evidence-based decision-making.
