Anthony Suchman, M.D., M.A., F.A.C.P., F.A.A.C.H., Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of Rochester, Senior Consultant and Head Healthcare Consultancy, McArdle Ramerman Center, and Founder and Senior Consultant, Relationship Centered Health Care, Rochester, NY
The term 'relationship-centered care' was introduced in 1994 in a white paper on the education of health professionals in the 21st century. But, it has implications that go well beyond education, and in this time the healthcare transformation it is arguably a more useful rubric than its more popular cousin 'patient-centered care.' In this grand rounds, we will explore the definition of relationship-centered care and its intellectual provenance; what it means for patient care (at the level of the clinical encounter and the healthcare system); and what it will take to implement it.
Dr. Suchman does not have financial relationships with commercial interests.
