This presentation will review recent genomic discoveries in psychiatry with a particular focus on their implications for diagnosis and treatment. Methods such as sequencing, genome-wide association scanning, and transcriptomic analysis will be introduced, along with the results from such studies of developmental disorders such as ADHD and autism as well as major psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The process and pragmatics of translating such discoveries into useful diagnostic and prognostic tools for clinical practice will also be discussed.
