SUMMARY:Psychiatry Grand Rounds
DESCRIPTION:
Do Antidepressants Really Work Better Than Placebo?\n
 \n
 Laurence
 B. Guttmacher, MD, Clinical
 Director, Rochester Psychiatric Center, Clinical
Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Humanities,
 Associate Dean, Advising, University
of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry,
 Rochester, NY\n
 \n
 Most clinical trials of antidepressants
show the active compound to separate
only modestly from a placebo control.
This talk will review some of the potential explanations
 for this. Are antidepressants so
bad, is placebo so good, or is this a reflection
of the methodology used in industry sponsored
 clinical trials?\n
 \n
 Dr. Guttmacher does
not have financial relationships with commerical
 interests. \n\n
