5A provides care to patients with multiple trauma, gynecological problems, and ear/nose/throat concerns, as well as general surgery. 5A also offers the additional service of telemetry for the surgical population. 5B provides care to our pancreas and kidney transplantation program patients as well as plastic and burn patients.

Both 5A and 5B are committed to providing the highest quality care in an environment that respects the dignity of each patient, nurse, physician, volunteer, visitor and fellow employee. A core service educator and preceptor ensure a smooth orientation program and provide opportunities to learn and utilize advanced skills.

The Surgical ICU is a valuable part of what makes University Hospital a Level-One Trauma Center. We care for the majority of trauma patients who are in the critical phase of their illnesses. Our health care teams work with leading-edge technology and provide opportunities for exposure to the most recent breakthroughs in the medical field. The collaborative efforts of the health care teams facilitate a continuity of care that is exceptional.

The Clark Burn Center is a four-bed Intensive Care Unit that is a regional referral center providing state-of-the-art burn care. The Center cares for both adult and pediatric patients in inpatient and outpatient settings in over 27 counties. The Center also provides education to the public and health care providers.
