Cardiovascular and thoracic nursing at University Hospital represent a comprehensive continuum of care involving both medical and surgical services.

Cardiothoracic Telemetry Unit

This is a 27-bed telemetry unit that has openings for experienced and graduate nurses. This is a fast-paced unit that provides care for patients with a full range of cardiovascular and thoracic medical and surgical conditions. We have an energetic and enthusiastic team of staff who actively participates in the design of patient care. ACLS and specialty classes are provided.

Coronary Care Unit

The CCU is a 6-bed critical care unit for patients with acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, disturbances in cardiac rhythm and other acute cardiac conditions. Nursing staff also provide medical treatment, on an annual basis, 5 days a week, to Heart Failure patients. Here you will find a cohesive and caring multidisciplinary team that works together to provide exciting new treatments and techniques.

Cardiovascular Step-down Unit

This is an 8-bed unit designed for the inter-mediate level of care for the cardiac and thoracic patient. This unit has been established as a bridge for the continuity of care of a patient from an ICU setting to a floor. Staff who are highly motivated and skilled in meeting the psychosocial, spiritual and physical needs of the patient are the catalyst for the progression of the patient through the CV Step-down Unit.

Cardiopulmonary ICU

This is an 8-bed unit designed for the immediate post-operative care of the cardiopulmonary patient. State of the art advances, in combination with a multi-disciplinary team approach and nursing expertise, provide comprehensive care to our critically ill patients. The reputation of the cardiopulmonary program brings referrals from regional physicians with high-risk cardiac and thoracic profiles.
