Data Sources & DefinitionsHANYSHANYS, the Hospital Association of New York State, provides market and competitor reports based on SPARCS data obtained from the State of New York Department of Health. The SPARCS data is summarized into the FACETS database by HANYS and utilized through their Cornerstone software. All New York State Hospitals are required by law to submit both inpatient and ambulatory surgery data to SPARCS on an annual basis. HPM - Internal UHHPM, a database containing UH patient information, allows users to create reports based upon specific needs for UH data only. This tool may be used to define UH hospital trends but provides no market or competitor data for positioning in the service area(s). UHC BenchmarkingUHC, University HealthSystem Consortium, is an alliance of the clinical enterprises of academic health centers. UHC services provide comparative data to help health care providers manage their clinical resources and benchmark to other peer institutions - UHC members and members of the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH). This system uses Federal DRGs, not NYS DRGs, which will allow for easy benchmarking against other UHC members. Health Care Advisory BoardThe Advisory Board is a membership of 2,400 of the country's largest health systems and medical centers. The Advisory Board publishes 25 major studies and 15,000 customized research briefs each year on progressive management and clinical practices in health care. In general, the research focuses on the best (and worst) demonstrated practices, helping member institutions benefit from one another's learning curves. |
