Transplant Physicians
University Hospital Nephrologists provide comprehensive care for end-stage renal disease patients. They provide hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and various modes of continuous dialysis therapy to both adult and pediatric patients.
Nephrologists also support pediatric heart surgery program, and critical care services provided by University Hospital including its Burn and Trauma Services.
The Transplant Surgery and Nephrology Teams make joint rounds on the transplant patients every day. This integrated team approach is the best way to coordinate the medical and surgical management of the transplant patient.
Patient and Community education is also supported by the Nephrology Division Physicians, with an extensive ancillary staff to support outpatient dialysis services. Many active research efforts, included NIH funded kidney stone disease research, and a nephrology fellowship, are examples of the academic strength of the Department of Surgery.
The Pancreas Transplant Program is supported by the endocrinolgy experts University Hospital's Joslin Diabetes Center. One of eleven Joslin affiliates nationwide, the University Hospital Joslin Diabetes Center offers the most comprehensive, interdisciplinary treatment available for patients with diabetes. A Transplant Endocrinologist is part of the Pancreas Transplant Team.
