Screening and Education
The Breast Care Center offers comprehensive screening and follow-up care by experienced nurse practitioners. Screening generally includes a risk assessment, a clinical breast examination, and a mammogram. Instruction in breast self-examination, with printed and audiovisual materials, is offered to patients.
The Breast Care Center is part of a consortium of local health care providers participating in the Women's Health Outreach Program. This program promotes breast cancer prevention, early detection and education, with a particular emphasis on the medically underserved.
Nurse Practitioners from the Breast Care Center teach "Breast Cancer Detection Awareness Program," a program sponsored by the American Cancer Society, to both the general public and medical professionals.
