University Hospital's Surgical Bariatric Center Team of Experts

At the Surgical Bariatric Center, a multidisciplinary team, including a surgeon, psychologist, nurse practitioner, registered dietitian and exercise physiologist, participates in patient care. The patient's primary care physician is considered a key member of the team.

"After the surgery, our patients continue to receive their primary medical care from these physicians. Itís very important that they be kept informed of the surgical implications and the patient's progress," says Dr. Cunningham.

"Gastric bypass surgery is only one component of our comprehensive approach to the management of morbid obesity. It takes an entire team of medical professionals to prepare these patients and provide the necessary long-term support".
