About Social Work at Upstate
The mission of the Social Work profession is a set of core values:
Service, upholding the dignity and worth of the person
Appreciating the importance of human relationships
Maintaining integrity and competence
Curbing social injustice
Hospital Social Workers collaborate with patient care teams and integrate these core values utilizing principles and standards to guide ethical decision-making. Social Workers' primary goal is to help people in need and to address social problems.
SUNY Upstate Medical University Social Workers are required to have a Master of Social Work degree
and a New York State License (LMSW) .
In addition to the LMSW some Social Work Staff members have achieved a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker -R (LCSW-R) status.
