Flexible Scheduling
We understand that people have family responsibilities, jobs and other commitments, which is why we strive to have a very flexible schedule for treatment appointments. Our Radiation Oncologists schedule their work to maximize their availability to our patients.
MultiDisciplinary Clinics
The Thoracic Oncology Program, NeuroOncology Clinic and GenitoUrinary Multi-Disciplinary Clinic consist of specialized teams of physicians including the Radiation Oncologist, who together coordinate the approach to patient care.
Accreditation/Hospice Award
Recognition from the American College of Radiology: The Department of Radiation Oncology maintains accreditation by the American College of Radiology and conforms to their rigid standards. We are the only practice in Central New York to have achieved such recognition.
Recognition from the American College of Surgeons: University Hospital's cancer treatment programs have been collectively accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, a distinction awarded to only one in four hospitals nationwide.
Recognition from Hospice of CNY: The Department of Radiation Oncology was recognized by Hospice of CNY for the compassionate care of their patients.
The MISSION
of the Department of Radiation Oncology-
to offer the best, most proficient care to our patients by providing the most advanced technologies and therapies available and by participating in and staying on top of the latest in cancer research.

Radiation Therapy in Central New York began in the 1950s at Good Samaritan and Memorial Hospitals (now Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital). In 1965 the department moved into its new home at University Hospital where it has served the Central New York area ever since.
In 1968, Dr. Robert Sagerman began the ACGME Accredited Residency Program that continues to train residents to this day. In their continuing effort to provide state of art Radiation Oncology to more cancer patients the physicians of Upstate Medical University opened Hill Radiation Oncology in 1994 and spread this commitment to the Southern Tier of New York and Oswego County with the opening of UHS Radiation Oncology in 1997 and Oswego County Radiation Oncology in 1999.
Over the years University Hospital has been able to stay in step with the changes in technology in Radiation Therapy from the installation of the areas first Linear Accelerators to its latest effort which brings the latest Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy technology to the community of Central New York.
