Body Weight Support Treadmill Program
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at University Hospital offers a unique body weight support walking program for individuals with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, or other neurological disorders where the normal walking pattern has been affected. Body weight support (also known as unweighted walking) is part of locomotor training.
Locomotor training is a rehabilitative approach that promotes the recovery of walking using a harness suspended over a treadmill. The harness supports the individual while the therapists assist the individual as needed with leg and trunk movements over the treadmill. Treatments also include individualized mobility training and a home exercise program.
A physician's referral is required for examination and treatment within this program.
