Osteoporosis Therapy Program

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at University Hospital offers physical therapy services to individuals with osteoporosis. Individuals with osteoporosis have an increased chance of fracture in the spine, hip, wrist, and other areas. Spine fractures can cause pain and an increased curve of the spine. Most hip fractures are because of a fall.

Those with osteoporosis are more prone to another fracture once one fracture has occurred. The osteoporosis program provides a physical therapy examination and treatment for those with osteoporosis. The examination includes an assessment of posture, body mechanics, balance and risk of falls. Treatment is an individualized program based on the findings of the examination as well as providing education for care.

A physician's referral is required for examination and treatment within this program.
