Falls and Balance Program

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at University Hospital offers a falls and balance program. This special program is designed to identify people who have a history or risk of falls.

A physical therapist will administer a standardized test (Berg Balance Test) to determine the risk of falls. The therapist will also do a complete physical therapy examination to assess for any other contributing factors. An individualized treatment plan or appropriate referral will be developed to address the various physical factors. Patient and family education is an important part of this program. An assessment of the home for safety issues and suggestions for changes are also included in the program.

A physician's referral is required for examination and treatment within this program.
