Computerized Cognitive Testing

Current guidelines for the management of sports-related concussion recommend pre-season baseline cognitive testing for athletes. After concussion, an athlete is not allowed to return to play until symptom-free for a specific period of time, and until re-testing shows that his or her cognitive functioning has returned to baseline.

Computerized cognitive tests have been developed that are sensitive to problems in attention, memory, and processing speed after concussion, and which can be repeated as many time as necessary to monitor recovery.

The Center helps schools and athletic leagues develop and implement a computerized cognitive testing program to ensure the proper management of sports-related concussion.

Individual athletes can also be referred for testing, especially if there is a history of multiple concussions.
