Osteoporosis Center

The mission of the Osteoporosis Center of University Hospital, which is located in the Joslin Center at the University Health Care Center, is to provide patients in Central New York with a uniquely comprehensive approach to the evaluation and treatment of osteoporosis and related diseases. Our interdisciplinary team consists of physicians, osteoporosis nurse educators, and an exercise physiologist.

Metabolic Bone Disease Center (MBDC)

The Osteoporosis Center is part of the Metabolic Bone Disease Center (MBDC) and is supervised by the Center Director, Dr. Arnold M. Moses. The program is only one of many activities of the MBDC. The MBDC also provides consultative services for the medical treatment and management of metabolic bone disorders such as Paget's disease, osteomalacia, and osteogenesis imperfecta, as well as osteoporosis. The center frequently conducts continuing medical education programs, bimonthly case conferences, and community outreach conferences. In addition, the MBDC is very involved in research related to the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone disorders.

Committed to Education

The Osteoporosis Center is recognized by the National Osteoporosis Foundation external link as a member of the Professional Partner's Network. The network is designed to work with the National Osteoporosis Foundation in a year-round effort to provide accurate, timely information to patients, family members, at-risk individuals and the general public. Our membership with this network demonstrates our commitment to providing osteoporosis education programs to increase awareness and knowledge of osteoporosis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

In addition, the MBDC promotes osteoperosis education throughout central and northeastern New York as one of four NYSOPEP coalitions around the state.
