The New York Statewide Resource Center for Geriatric Education was founded in 1981 through an act of the New York State Legislature in order to stimulate and improve geriatric medical education programs throughout the state. in 1987, Governor Cuomo signed into law, the Resource Center as a permanent entity within the State University of New York. Included in this decision was a mandate to expand the focus of the Resource Center's activities to include medicine, nursing and the allied health professions.
The center, through its two divisions, has amassed a body of information and models of geriatric education and curricula, news of legislative and state agency activities and initiatives affecting geriatrics and gerontology, fellowships, and other educational opportunities. This information is available to the health care professionals of the state.
