Center for Emergency Preparedness
The Department of Emergency Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University has historically provided for the community's emergency medical preparedness and response needs through clinical service, education and research. Consistent with that role, the Department has played a leadership role in developing the medical components of the community's response to terrorism and homeland security initiatives since the earliest moments of the extraordinary events of September 11, 2001.
The Department's expertise and experience in providing emergency preparedness on a daily basis -- for common emergencies, natural and man-made disasters, and in the face of the continuing threat of terrorism -- provides the foundation for the Center for Emergency Preparedness: a Center through which the community can access all of the diverse resources necessary to achieve medical readiness for both routine and extraordinary events.
The major activities of the center are in the areas of:
- Development of alternative sites for the provision of emergency services
- Preparedness education and training activities
- Research
- Grantsmanship
