Genitourinary Oncology Program

(315) 464-6106

minimally invasive robotic assisted prostate surgeryThe Genitourinary Oncology Program consists of an interdisciplinary team of urologists, radiation therapists, medical oncologists, pathologists and radiologists collaborating to appropriately diagnose and care for patients with genitourinary malignancies. The physicians are supported by a unique team of oncology nurses and ancillary personnel to provide comprehensive, state-of-the art care.

Much of the team's efforts center on the management of carcinoma of the prostate which has become the most common malignancy and the second most common cause of cancer-related death in men. Other common malignancies requiring such a multidisciplinary approach include bladder, testicular, and kidney cancer and several other rarer tumor types of the genitourinary system. The clinical efforts are supported by a strong basic science research team which is funded by NIH, federal, and local contributions.

In addition to providing comprehensive multimodality care to patients including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, the team emphasizes total patient care and appropriate attention to addressing the psychological implications of the diagnosis of cancer for both patients and their families. There are ongoing efforts to promote disease prevention and early diagnosis with emphasis on improving life expectancy as well as quality of life.
