Whether you're looking for patient care information and
treatment services or you're interested in the breadth of our
research enterprise, you will find it here.
The department was established in 1960 and is presently
chaired by Nancy Nussmeier, MD. Nearly 14,000 patients
receive the highly regarded services of the Faculty Members and
all the other Staff. The faculty comprise 28 physicians, 5 nurse
practitioners and approximately 33 physicians in training. They
handle the most complex cases in Central New York, and with
other, dedicated investigators, participate in a vigorous
research program focused on human physiology, spinal narcotic
analgesia and hyperbaric medicine.
Upstate also offers regular, specialized education programs
for the faculty, residents and fellows, including a "Difficult
Airway Management" workshop, dissection courses and a
comprehensive Anesthesia Review Course.
