Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces from Upstate Medical University along with their friends, families, and some employees who are active guard or reservists march in the Syracuse Veterans Day Parade.

In November, 3rd graders from Dr. Martin Luther King Magnet School received new dictionaries from Upstate medical students as part of the National Dictionary Project.

The CNY Bariatric Surgery Center at Upstate sponsored the first Syracuse Walk From Obesity to raise awareness of the disease of obesity, childhood obesity and morbid obesity. 90 participants raised $6,000.

Team Upstate raised $4,097 for the American Diabetes Association at the Step Out Walk in Oct.

126 members of Team Upstate raised close to $12,000 for the American Cancer Society at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in October.

Team Upstate raised $4,319 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the Light the Night Walk in September, with 95 participants.

Children were fitted for free bike helmets at the NYS Fair in Sept. The activity was created by Zulma Tovar-Spinoza, MD, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Upstate, in cooperation with the Upstate Trauma center.

Team Upstate raised over $3,500 at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in May to support breast cancer education, treatment and research.

Upstate employees volunteered at the annual Miracle Ride in May, which raised $60,000 to support pediatric services at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital & the new Pediatric Cancer Center.

More than 1,200 participated in the 14th annual Paige's Butterfly Run in June, and raised over $160,000 for pediatric cancer research and patient care.
