Vascular Surgery is a specialty, which focuses on the treatment of peripheral arterial and venous diseases.

Vascular surgeons are broadly trained in the diagnosis, medical management, critical care, surgical and endovascular techniques for the treatment of these conditions. Vascular surgeons have generally completed 5 years of general surgical training and an additional 1 to 2 years of fellowship training in vascular disease. We have four fully trained vascular surgeons in our section.

The Section of Vascular Surgery also directs the University Hospital's Vascular Laboratory, which is one of few accredited vascular laboratories in the Syracuse area. The lab performs several noninvasive tests with ultrasound technology, which help detect obstructed arteries or veins and gives the physician valuable information to aid in planning treatment.
