SUNY Upstate Residency Experience

Residents are given unlimited treatment planning options, within the scope of good dental practice, to pursue their interests. Our residents perform comprehensive dental care using the latest materials and techniques.

Residents treat approximately 50 patients weekly during 8:30 to 5 p.m. office hours. The patient population includes adults, children and medically compromised individuals.

Residents also gain exposure to complex oral surgery cases performed in the operating room. Our hospital has two dedicated rooms for dental crisis, and residents take emergency calls each month to become proficient in treating any dental emergency.

Residents interact with general dentists and specialists in the community by working on cases with them, or attending dental meetings and lectures. Many of our attending doctors were former residents of our program.

Our program attracts outstanding graduating dental students from all parts of the country, and many of our graduates go on to post graduate specialty training.
